About
Sharon Lacey is a figurative oil painter. She studied at the New York Academy of Art and at the University of London before moving to the Boston area in 2013. Her works are process driven, with the imagery emerging through the mental and physical act of painting. She looks for images that feel familiar—like they have lived in humanity a long time, yet endure because our emotional palette remains unchanged. Her interests lie with the grim or awkward realities of embodied existence and those routine, relatable actions like walking, sleeping, carrying things, or falling down. In her newest works, she taps into her experiences growing up on a tree farm in rural South Carolina to explore relationships to land, history, and family mythologies. She teaches drawing and painting at MIT and Boston College.
